A series of music led events are taking place at Middlesbrough Town Hall with the aim of helping school children to improve their social skills and confidence, as well as giving them a fantastic opportunity to develop a range of musical-based skills.

Local schools are invited to bring their pupils to take part in the events at the newly refurbished venue in Middlesbrough town centre.

On Tuesday 26 June school children can take part in the World Music Choir and Drumming Group event and will learn how to drum and sing whilst also learning about cultural diversity so they can better understand Middlesbrough’s multi-cultural society.

The Schools Big Sing event will celebrate ‘BBC Ten Pieces’ on Wednesday 4 July and will see several Middlesbrough schools come together to sing, learn and create. Each school group will perform two songs which they have chosen and rehearsed before coming together for a grand finale performance where all children will sing two pieces from the national project.

Later in the year the Town Hall spaces will take on a classical theme over two days from Monday 1 October to Tuesday 2 October as the Schools – Save the Date! event takes place with the aim of inspiring children to get creative through the medium of classical music.

The event is part of the BBC Ten Pieces celebrations and children will be able to listen to different pieces of classical music whilst taking part in fun activities such as storytelling, dance, singing and art and craft – and there will be a performance from a professional musician too!

Schools can take part for the whole day for a small charge of £30 per group, and booking is essential as spaces will be limited to four schools per day.
