Middlesbrough FC players are supporting the Middlesbrough Promise to encourage younger fans to read more books.

In addition, the MFC Foundation have released their very own book, The Bridge that George Built, which supports the campaign.

As a partner of the promise, the football club are committed to supporting the reading pledge in the hope that children in Middlesbrough and the wider Tees Valley are inspired to read more books.

Reading during childhood encourages a child to develop a range of skills including a wider vocabulary, and it is also proven to increase the likelihood of a successful future.

As part of the Middlesbrough Promise, the Extreme Reading Challenge competition is open until Monday 5th November in partnership with the national Literacy Trust hub in Middlesbrough.

To enter the competition, you must take a picture reading a book in an unusual environment. If you’re into extreme sports or are heading off to somewhere unusual this weekend then send your picture in to schoolimprovement@middlesbrough.gov.uk
