Multilingualism

Learning our home language helps me learn about our culture and traditions, and communicate with family members who don’t know English.

Don’t worry if you speak to me in our home language and I reply in English. I still know our home language – I just want to practice using my ‘new’ language.

When I first start school nursery, I may not speak for a while. Don’t worry, I am learning new words all the time and will use them when I feel ready.

Sing songs and rhymes, and read books and poems, to me in our home language. I’d like to learn all of these too.

Speak to me in whichever language feels most natural to you, whether that’s our home language or English. That way I’ll learn more too.

Talk to me in our home language; it makes me feel included. Learning my home language will help me learn English.
